Position Description:

This position is responsible for providing effective job training, development, and placement services to Michigan Works! clients in Jackson county. This is an outside funded position. No employment inferred beyond the life of such funding.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist job seekers with job search and placement services.
• Assist job seekers in the Pure Michigan Talent Connect registration process.
• Assist Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants in registering for work as required by the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA).
• Verify UI claimant registration and other documentation as required by UIA.
• Supply UI claimants with limited information on UI claim processes and UIA contact information.
• Assist job seekers with internet navigation, email account creation, online job applications, and other employment related services.
• Provide resume assistance; review for clarity, structural and grammatical correctness.
• Print and post current job orders that are open in the local area.
• In accordance with the Priority of Service requirements in the Workforce Investment Act of 1998, effectively identify veterans at the point of entry and provide them with equitable employment services and priority in referral to employment, qualified training programs, and other special programs for veterans.
• Occasionally provide customers with a detailed explanation of how to file an employment services related complaint and ensure that these complaints are addressed via The Employment Service Complaint System.
• Assist in communicating to job seekers and others the services that are available through the Michigan Works! Agency.
• Present and provide instruction in job search workshops covering topics such as resume writing, preparation of job applications, interviewing skills, and development of job leads as an organized group activity.
• Occasionally participate in outside/inside promotional events i.e. seminars, job fairs, worker orientations and other special events.
• Ensure a customer friendly atmosphere through professional presentation.
• Work cooperatively with state and county agencies, departments, and staff within the Michigan Works! One-Stop center.
• Assist in the creation of reports, fliers, PowerPoint presentations or other professional documents.
• Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with workforce development programs.
• Working knowledge of human services, health, employment, criminal justice systems’ chemical dependency programs, regulations and procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills; ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people and institutes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with most “difficult – to –serve” clients.
• Ability to work well as part of the team to achieve organizational goals.
• Understanding of issues facing long term public assistance recipients, unemployed and underemployed individuals.
• Ability to work a flexible 40 hour week schedule which may include some evenings and weekend hours.
• Ability to work with various governmental, private, and public entities to aid in the successful program implementation.
• Must be able to tolerate and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to a myriad of situations and circumstances.
• Demonstrate ability to handle multiple responsibilities, simultaneously.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $19.11 - $21.02
Salary Comments:

Current Washtenaw Community College Employees Salary is determined by BOT Policy 5005***
An Administrative Group employee whose job has been reclassified or who is promoted to a new position shall have his/her salary set at the new salary range minimum or at 10% above current salary, whichever is greater. Starting rate/salary is determined based on education and work history listed on application.
