Position Description:

To plan and carry out a room program which is consistent with Center policies, program and development needs of children in the social/emotional, cognitive and physical growth areas. This position reports 210 days per academic year – 8 hours per day.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for early childhood classrooms.
• Research, gather and prepare materials necessary for implementing a creative curriculum program.
• Assist in the evaluation of room and Center programs and services as requested.
• Submit reports and keep accurate records on various room/child activity as directed.
• Refer children with potential special needs for further evaluation and assistance and work with parents and agencies to implement a supportive individual education plan for the child.
• Supervise children for safety and accident prevention at all times.
• Apply emergency first aid care, CPR or rescue breathing for injured child.
• Follow universal precautions for handling bodily fluids to prevent exposure to pathogens.
• Determine the daily health of each child and when necessary administer and document medications.
• Report suspicions of child abuse/neglect.
• Oversee the accurate release of children to authorized person.
• Mentor practicum students, as well as other part time staff.
• Practice state of Michigan licensing regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation regulations.

Related Duties:
• Write monthly newsletters to parents regarding room activities.
• Schedule and conduct parent conferences Fall and Winter Semesters and more often as needed in response to identified, individual child behaviors or parent requests.
• Recommend any purchases, repairs, or alterations of equipment or furniture as needed.
• Actively participate on committees to achieve Center/College goals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate degree or above in Early Childhood Education or related field or 60 credit hours which include a Child Development Associates Credential (CDA) with 12 additional credit hours in early childhood education with one year successful recent work experience in a licensed child care center.
• Working knowledge of state of Michigan licensing regulation and NAEYC accreditation regulation.
• Ability to use interpersonal communicative skills effectively.
• Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters/materials.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Current certification in First Aid by the American Red Cross, or ability to obtain such certification within the first six (6) months of employment; such certification must be continuing.
